How BabyByMonth writes content and builds tools

BabyByMonth is designed as an educational planning resource for parents. The site aims to be calm, practical, and explicit about what is guidance, what is a rule of thumb, and what should be checked with a pediatrician.

Content principles

  • We use age-based guidance as a reference point, not a rigid script.
  • We avoid overstating milestones, sleep, feeding, or behavior as fixed deadlines.
  • We use language like "many babies" and "commonly" because babies vary.
  • We add medical and safety disclaimers anywhere a parent might confuse planning guidance with medical advice.

Tool assumptions

  • The wake window calculator uses common planning ranges by age and adjusts them for first nap, middle-of-day, or late-day sleep.
  • The feeding calculator uses age-based planning ranges and, when weight is entered, a simple formula-feeding rule of thumb of about 2 to 2.5 ounces per pound per day, capped near 32 ounces.
  • Checklist and milestone tools are organizational aids, not diagnostic or medical tools.

Shopping and affiliate disclosure

Some product links on BabyByMonth may be affiliate links. If you buy through one of those links, the site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Product mentions are there to help parents compare common categories and familiar options. They are not medical endorsements, safety guarantees, or a promise that one product is right for every family.

We aim to place shopping links where they are contextually useful, like age hubs and guides, without crowding the main guidance.

When to stop using the site and call your pediatrician

If you are worried about breathing, fever, dehydration, feeding safety, poor weight gain, loss of skills, pain, unusual lethargy, or a pattern that feels clearly outside your child's usual behavior, it is more important to get medical guidance than to keep using an educational tool.

Important note

BabyByMonth is educational and informational only. It is not medical advice and does not replace your pediatrician, lactation consultant, feeding therapist, or another qualified clinician.
